Sintra is a large city with numerous impressive monuments, many quaint nearby villages, and is set within a stunning natural environment. The Sintra Cascais Natural Park, recognised as being more than half a century old, is one of the 'lungs' of central Portugal.
This natural park has been listed as such since 1994, incorporating the Sintra hills, the Sierra de Colares, Cabo da Roca, Cabo Raso, the area of Cascais, its coastline, and a vast expanse of forests which include oak, pine, fir and arbutus trees among other species.
This park is located near Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and although it maintains its natural essence, with dunes, lagoons, and a coastline repleat with cliffs and unique landscapes in which Sintra is the centre. The park has been afforded World Cultural Heritage of Humanity status.
Cabo da Roca is one of the highlights of this nature reserve, and is located in the west of the park. This is a place where there is a drop of over 200 metres, and from which you can enjoy breathtaking views of Atlantic. Another place worth mentioning is Hells mouth, located on the road from Cascais to Malveira da Serra. There are spaces for windsurfing, and stunning sea views.
